Motherhood is a transformation like no other and it comes with many responsibilities. A successful postpartum involves complete recovery and rejuvenation of tissues after childbirth, healthy digestion and feeling happy and joyful about motherhood.

Dr. Gupta shines a light on how new mothers can take care of themselves and their babies with Ayurveda and this is the only newborn baby care tip you will need. Ayurveda understands the changes that women undergo during childbirth and what is required for proper recovery and rejuvenation.

Here are some great Ayurveda tips for New Moms:-

1. Never feed the child while Lying down

It is important to take extra care while breastfeeding the child. Always make sure that you never feed the child while lying down. This is because the baby may get suffocated in case the mother gets sleepy. The milk may spill over and cause an ear infection this is why it is advised not to feed the baby while lying down.

2. Take a bit of roasted Ajwain (Trachyspermum ammiroasted) after meals

The changing hormones and a growing uterus slow down digestion during pregnancy. This gives rise to gas, bloating and flatulence.
Ajwain seeds have thymol, which enhances the digestive enzymes and improves gut health. So, new mothers can take roasted Ajwain after meals simply roast ajwain on a low flame until its fragrance starts to come.

3. Perform deep breath exercise along the spine especially during feeding

As new mother one often feels exhausted and stressed and it’s vital for you to have that mental stamina for whatever reason. The best breastfeeding tip for a new mom to overcome stress and anxiety is to practice deep breathing and along with that focus on your breath, noticing how the air feels as it moves in and out of your lungs. Silently repeat a calming phrase like "peace" with each exhale for 1 minute, or until you feel more relaxed.

4. Take Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus) and Jeera (Cumin)

Both Shatavari and Jeera help to improve the quality and quantity of the feed.
Shatavari has Antioxidant and Anti-anxiety effects.
A substance that boosts milk production during breast-feeding is called a galactagogue, and Shatavari is commonly used for this purpose. Shatavari can be taken in powdered and tablet form.

Cumin seeds help in stimulating milk production. They also improve digestion and provide immense relief from acidity, bloating and constipation.

5. Always eat fresh fruits and vegetables.

Even if you're no longer “eating for two,” your diet still matters. It’s important as a new mother to increase the intake of fresh fruits and vegetables.
Fruits and vegetables are rich in vitamins and minerals that will keep you healthy. They also have fiber, which helps prevent constipation and keep the bowel movement normal and healthy.

6. Never feed the child if the mother is feeling Physically & Mentally unwell.

Your mental health and wellbeing during pregnancy is as important as your physical health.
If you have the flu, you should not breastfeed your child. Instead, first, try to steer clear from your infant to prevent giving him or her influenza. Because the baby can still contract the flu from airborne germs as they are vulnerable to such diseases. Instead, have someone else give the baby your expressed milk until you’re healthy.
